Customer Review: “I am giving it 5 stars because it is a simple and functional item that works well. Here is some more about my take on it. It is a pretty hefty tool. Well made and easy to assemble. It took me only about 10 minutes to put it together, including 5 minutes figuring out what the instructions were saying. You don’t need them. Then, I would say it works well but I am getting old and this requires more effort than I am willing to put out. On well irrigated parts of the lawn it is good, but where the soil is tough, it is hard. That is the case with any such manual tool. This tool will work best for most people if you have small lawns, in the realm of a 10,000 square feet, or you are Andre the giant and can do more. I have a smaller aeration tool, similar to this one. It is easier to use, however, this one is much better – more powerful and with more tines. It does come with two extra tines, which is a very nice touch. In case one breaks or gets dull, you have the replacements. Further, it has a blade that you can attach to the handle instead of the aerator. For me, that is even more useful. I used it to scrape some moss that had crept up on our concrete and blacktop. This is faster than using a pressure washer, and works almost as well, especially if you apply moss killer after scraping it off. The blade makes it a general purpose scraper for many uses. So, the bottom lines are that it is a nice tool and a good replacement for an old one you may have in your shed. If not, it is good to have one of these in your garden and home maintenance set . The blade alone will pay its way.”

The long handle comes in metal segments that need to be bolted together, which is relatively easily accomplished (though what’s included as directions aren’t particularly helpful – see attached picture). The design is such that one segment can be left out when configured for the aerator and added in for the shovel allowing for the different way these tools are used. The rubber grips on the handle are nice – providing a good grip without slipping. The interchangeable design, accommodating aerator or shovel is nice, but changing from one to another requires unscrewing the bolts and reattaching the screws and washers – not the most effortless change out. Living in New England, February is not the time to test out new gardening tools – tough to find the soil under the accumulated snow. Once the snow melts, my impression is that this tool will be plenty strong enough to master our rocky soil. We’ve got a relatively large vegetable garden and generally just use a tiller to turn over the ground before planting in the spring. I’m looking forward to seeing if this aerator improves our yield. I will say that the claim that the shovel attachment could be used as a snow shovel seems a bit of an advertising stretch. Maybe if you had a very small stoop to clear of very little snow, but I certainly wouldn’t purchase this product with that in mind. It does look like it could be effectively employed to scrape a small icy patch, though I think the real value of this tool to me will be in the garden this spring/summer.”

Turns out yeah, if you walk on dry grass or live in a super dry climate it won’t do much, and you’ll probably trip a few times in the process. On the other hand if you strap and stroll in these bad boys during a gentle (or not so gentle) rain, they will get the job done for you. Your alternative is a larger heavier garden tool you may or may not have room for, or paying hundreds for a professional. Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. Unboxing the shoes, I was very happy to see that all the spikes where already installed on the shoes, so it saved some time! The sizing of the shoes are correct, I ordered a small size and I wear size 8 on women shoes. The straps to secure you’re foot are pretty strong, I used it for my front yard and I will say that depending your terrain, if you have a lot of rocks around, it makes it difficult and you can definitely twist your ankles, but that’s the only bad thing I have to say about it. Customer Review: “i first let viewers knew that i received this product free under the amazon vine program the aerator came in a few days ago, just perfect for our area. here in oklahoma, the temperature the last few weeks had been in the 70’s during the day with very little rain. sun blazing, wind drying the soil out, my lawn and the the soil beneath the grass brittle and dryed out, rain water just ran off before it could be absorbed. my husband had opened the box when it arrived and thought i had bought him a gift 😇😇; i left him in the belief. so, anyhow, the next day he went outside (mind you he is in his low 70’s) and i found him around 10am marching up and down the lawn with the aerator. i watched him, told him not to over due it, but he replied “this thing is fantastic, its easy to lift, very light weight, and takes no effort at all to put one foot on top and take a step”. i left him to his device, 45 min later, he still had not returned inside, went to check on him again – still out there pushing the aerator in the soil, push, step on it, pull out, repeat – i could not believe after almost an hour he was still at it. told me later, that it was like childs play, the spikes are so slim and set up in a way that does not take a lot of physical effort to push down or to pull them back up but here comes where i saw the benefit. two days ago we had rain, lots of it at night and early morning, street ran like a creek. normally, most of the water would have just hit the lawn (mine has a slope of about 5feet from street level to the walkway leading to my front door), form little rivers in the dryed out soil and run off with little benefit to my grass. however, that morning when i checked outside, my lawn looked different, at first i couldnt figure out why, than it hit me, the soil looked somewhat loose, crumbly and when i took a little shevel, it was easy to turn the soil, it was spongy. those thousands of little holes my husband had created by using the aerator, had stored the rain water in the soil and had prevented the usual runoff – i was absolutely amazed. summery: the aerator delivered exactly what it promised, it loosened up the soil with minimum effort, the prize is reasonable, the aerator itself is solidly build, not some flimsy contraption you sometimes find in discount stores. according to my elderly husband it is very easy to use and doesnt wear you out. it came almost fully constructed, just minor work putting it together, very pleased with this product and i believe it would be an asset to any homeowner who has a lawn to maintain.”

If you use the tools provided for assembly you might become frustrated. This item is built to last. The only downside is the amount of time/work and energy it takes to do a larger lawn. It will give you a bit of a workout. You step on it to plunge the spikes into the ground and it’s somewhat self cleaning as it retracts.”
