Customer Review: “This little guy is frustrating. It’s too big to really use on my knees when down gardening and too small to really use comfortably when standing and I’m only 5’3″. BUT it is still a 5 star shovel because it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a weird sized shovel, and it is a great weird sized shovel with a good solid build.Why would one want a weird sized shovel? My primary reason was safety and prep for camping, hiking, or driving around. Right now, there is plenty of snow, ice and slush on the roads on any given day. Having a small shovel in the car might not be the best to shovel a car out of snow or ice with, but it’s a LOT better than nothing. We used to spend a lot of time out in the deserts of Utah, and getting stuck in sand was always a concern. I’ve now moved to Maine, so I’m not sure if I’ll be doing quite as much off roading here yet, but it’s always good to be prepared. A small shovel is easy to store, easy to take with you camping to shovel dirt on the fire, shovel out the fire pit, transport long distances, and fit in cramped spaces. So yes, this is a weird sized shovel, but it’s just big enough to get better leverage than a small trowel, it’s just big enough to do a good hole for a lot of the bigger sprouts for the garden, and a lot more stable than the small collapsible shovels I’ve used in the past. The fact that this doesn’t collapse gives it a lot more stability and I feel a lot more confident in it for emergency situations. Yes, the fact that I FEEL more confident in it is important in an emergency. If you’re needing to do something quickly with a shovel and you’re scared the one you’re using is going to collapse while you use it, it takes energy and attention that could be spent better elsewhere.As a side note, it is a perfect size for a kid to help dig in the garden. My 8 year old really wanted to help last year, so this year, he now has a perfect sized shovel for him to use, which I definitely see as a win for both of us.So yes, this is a weird shovel, but it’s great for what it is. The current price is about $27 and that seems like a good deal to me.”

It’s also not big enough for the purpose as a planting shovel, except maybe for a child or munchkin from Oz. But, it’s great for light duty work and shoveling mulch. Well made, but medium gauge. Might be the most over-packaged item I’ve ever purchased – wrapped and wrapped in foam and bubble wrap in an oversized box like fine some kind of fine china!Bought the hoe tool, too. I really don’t think it’s fair to take off stars, or anything else, just because a person doesn’t read the description (or even the title, as in this case).It works great. It sharp. I’m a 5’6″ tall, busted up bodied woman, and this really seems to work well with that, and gives me leverage. It doesn’t hurt me as much as other shovels.It doesn’t hold a lot of whatever you’re shoveling, and maybe that’s what eases that back pain. 🙂 I wouldn’t recommend for the Brawny towel guy, but for an average size person, or woman, I think it’s super useful.It’s lightweight, which is a bonus.
