The spring action is smooth and powerful enough to assist in pulling the spikes from the ground. Just wiggle it a bit and it comes right out. It’s work though. If you aren’t willing to sweat, you should probably pony up the extra money for a push type aerator. I just finished my yard and found 2 techniques that both work well although one is dangerous. The safer method is to simply step on it, give it a wiggle, pull it out and repeat. The very unsafe method that I personally preferred because I was able to complete the job much quicker is to just drive it into the ground by lifting it up and slamming it down. It was extremely fast and since I have a strong upper body I found it much easier. Just don’t miss or you could spike your foot which would probably not be awesome. Anyway, good product, fair price, no complaints here.”
