Customer Reviews

Customer Review: These worked perfectly to tighten up my janky old wheelbarrow, in combination with a nice new bolt kit set. It was flopping around and hard to control when loaded because the old wedge was missing. Working like new again.

Customer Review: Good for what it is but be aware it’s simple some pine 2×4 cut in a triangle. No holes, hardwood, or any sealant. If you have a saw, can easily make this out of some scrap. But I didn’t want to mess with it so paid for the convenience.

2. Poly Tray Wheelbarrow 5 Cu Ft

Why We Recommend It

For general yard work, this wheelbarrow is a reliable workhorse. The dual wheels are a game-changer for stability, and the poly tray is lightweight yet robust. It’s a well-balanced option that makes hauling soil, mulch, or garden debris considerably easier.

Best For

Home gardeners and DIYers who need a stable and easy-to-handle wheelbarrow for regular yard maintenance and light hauling tasks.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Great stability due to the two wheels.
  • Easy to assemble and maneuver.
  • Poly tray resists rust and is easy to clean.
  • Comfortable loop handle.
Cons:
  • Bolt heads inside the tray can catch materials.
  • Slightly heavier than some comparable models.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Does exactly as advertised. Nice inexpensive 2 wheel wheelbarrow. Easy to put together and is sturdy and rolls easily. Lightweight when empty.

Customer Review: The parts were well packaged, clear instructions, with good quality hardware. Nice wheels and tires with integrated bearings that roll smooth and quiet. One negative – the four bolts that secure the wheelbarrow bin to the frame protrude above the bin’s surface. The protruding bolt heads will catch material in the bin. This wheelbarrow’s total weight is a few pounds heavier than all others in its class. This probably reflects the slightly heavier construction of this wheelbarrow compared to others that look like it. Hopefully, it will be more durable than other lighter wheelbarrows. Be sure to follow instructions to initially assemble parts loosely before attachment of the bin, then tighten everything.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Affordable price point.

  • Lightweight and easy to assemble.
  • Suitable for a range of common yard jobs.
Cons:
  • Cotter pins might seem a bit light for extremely heavy loads.
  • Not designed for heavy-duty construction work.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Easy, really easy to assemble, you do need a pair or pliers or better a small Crescent wrench, you also need your handy little pocket knife to cut through some packing and the plastic cover over the parts card. Supplied with it comes an Allen wrench, for basic assembly. Use the Crescent only to finish tighten assorted bolts and nuts. Assembled very quickly, probably under 15 minutes – but I did not time it. I do think the cotter pins holding the wheels on the axle were a little light, but I don’t intend on using this for terrible heavy work either. So they may be OK. I don’t think it would stand up to lots of heavy haul, but I bought it for leaves and such.

Customer Review: I’ve read reviews about this cart being toy size, I disagree. I moved 27 cubic yards of mulch this spring using this cart. It is of the right size to slip in between the shrubbery and dump the mulch where it was needed, no need to shovel off the cart. The large wheels made it easy to maneuver it over dips in the yard, stone pathways, etc. You need to keep in mind that it isn’t made of steel and is not intended to mix concrete or haul a load of bricks or other heavy-duty jobs, but it still can do many jobs and is definitely not a toy. Assembly is a bit tricky. The instructions state to not tighten anything until everything is in place and screws have been started before tightening everything down. I followed this and I would say that rule is almost mandatory.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Ok, let me see if I can clear up a few things. First off, after reading quite a few of the reviews, I “almost” cancelled my order thinking I was ordering some sort of Children;s PlaySchool wheel barrel toy. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Here’s the unbiased truth on this cart. If you are a Construction Worker hauling bags of cement or really heavy materials in bulk, DO NOT purchase this item. This is for the typical home owner that not only needs a wheel barrel that is stable and easy on the back, but a tool that can also convert into something other than a wheel barrel like a dolly, plant lifter or stone hauler. I’ve had two back surgeries and even though I have healed up great, this little gem takes all the weight and I am no longer limited when it comes to landscaping. Sure, the actual cavity could have been a bit bigger but I think the designers looked at the average amount of material people actually put in the “well” area and settled on an ergonomic design that really takes the stress off your back. I am 6’7″ and the way this thing is built with the handles tilted upward, makes lifting and letting the bucket / well down with ease. I’ve had bags of stone, sand, wood chips and such in it and it has plenty of room to get the job done safely. The metal is rugged and thick and I can already tell this unit is going to last a long time. Sure, my other wheel barrel was HUGE but since it was so big, I couldn’t fill it to capacity without worrying about the darn thing tipping on me. As a former power lifter it is not a matter of strength but a matter of stability over terrain when in use. I read on one of the reviews that the bearings came off the plastic wheels? As a former engineer, you would of had to seriously overloaded this cart or tried to use the trailer hitch ball on something with a monster tongue weight to dislodge the bearings. The way I see it, using this cart in a “normal” fashion will provide years of care free use. The fit, finish, and quality of this cart is great, Yes, I am sure that occasionally there may be a defect from the factory for some people but when I looked my cart over in great detail, I found NO faults whatsoever. Even a brand new 100 million dollar aircraft has an occasional fault here and there, show me one product in history that hasn’t. Truth is folks, this little cart is great and I was even able to hang it on the wall in my garage using the hole on the dolly tongue. Took all of ten minutes to put together and test out all the features. Plus, it really is nice to just use this whenever I want and not worry about having to pump up the air filled tires anymore like the one on my old wheel barrel. By the way, I didn’t use my old wheel barrel that much so it sat in the garage for weeks on end but with the AeroCart, I use it for other functions quite a bit and I have since sold my old dolly, made a few dollars cash, and freed up some room in my garage, Would I recommend this? Darn right I would!

Customer Review: This a great “AeroCart Snow Plow” and used it at least a dozen times the last 2 winters. Great for snow but an investment of about 12 cents will make it even better. While “push shoveling” snow, our area also received about an inch of ice over the snow. Because of the weight of the ice while pushing the screw popped out of the shovel blade and bent the bar. This is not a defect, but when a 250 lb guy pushes ice, the blade can only withstand so much. Because this is a life saver to your back, I immediately purchased a new one but made one alteration. I put 3 cent washers behind the screw head (see pic). That will give extra stability to the screw. I also wrapped a bungee cord around the bars. This gave even more stability. You may wonder why I did not use the warranty? Really was not WORX defect or fault. You should never take advantage if you yourself caused the issue. I did and this “push shovel” is not made to push 100 lbs. of ice off a drive. Good Luck.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: I live on the water and had to replace my bulkhead a few years ago. Backfilling behind the new bulkhead required transporting 6 tri-axle loads of crushed rock from my driveway down into my back yard over the course of several months. There is a fairly steep slope from my front yard (where the driveway is located) to my back yard (where the bulkhead is located). I had a heavy-duty dual wheel wheel barrow, but taking it down that steep hill while keeping a grip on it to prevent it from getting away was almost impossible before I bought these wheelbarrow handles. Not only do they make dumping a wheel barrow easier, they make keeping a grip on the wheel barrow handles less of a strain on my hands and wrists. If I had not found these, I think I would have given up on the bulkhead project and just put a “Home For Sale” sign atop the mountain of crushed rock in my driveway. These also make pulling a wheel barrow backwards (either to maneuver it or to drag it back up a hill for another load) much easier than would otherwise be the case. As I indicated, I first bought these several years ago. The wheelbarrow I first installed them on has long since met the scrap heap but I fully expect these handles (which were easy to remove from the old wheelbarrow and put on the new one) to last me for life. I am reviewing them now because I am back to buy another pair for my mother-in-law because I think they will make it easier for her to use her tinier wheel barrow given the arthritis in her hands/wrists.

Customer Review: These work great and the company that makes them are in the USA. Yes made in merica. Excellent product and customer service 👏

Complete Buying Guide for Wheelbarrow Mitre 10

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing a wheelbarrow, especially when looking at options like those potentially found at Mitre 10, several factors are key. We look at the material of the tray (polypropylene is lightweight and rust-resistant, steel is robust but can rust), the number of wheels (one for agility, two for stability), the wheel type (pneumatic for shock absorption, solid for puncture resistance), the capacity (measured in cubic feet, for how much it can hold), and the handle design for comfort and grip. Ergonomics are vital, ensuring the wheelbarrow is balanced and easy to maneuver, making it suitable for tasks like moving dirt or moving mulch.

Budget Planning

Wheelbarrows vary significantly in price, from basic models to advanced multi-functional units. For general yard work, a budget of around $100-$200 often gets you a reliable, sturdy option. More specialized wheelbarrows or those with advanced features, like the Worx Aerocart, can cost $200-$300 or more. Simple repair parts, like wheelbarrow wedges, are very inexpensive, often under $20, offering a cost-effective way to maintain your equipment.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the best wheelbarrow for you depends on your specific needs and the type of work you do. Whether you’re tackling small gardening tasks, hauling firewood, or managing larger landscaping projects, there’s a wheelbarrow out there that will make the job easier. Always consider the balance, stability, and ease of use, especially if you have conditions like hills to navigate or physical limitations, where models designed for the hills or for women might be particularly beneficial.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the best type of wheel for a wheelbarrow?

A: Pneumatic (air-filled) tires offer better shock absorption and are easier to maneuver over rough terrain, making them ideal for most gardening and yard work. Solid rubber tires are puncture-proof but can be a rougher ride. The choice often depends on the terrain you’ll be working on.

Q: How much weight can a typical wheelbarrow hold?

A: Most standard residential wheelbarrows have a load capacity ranging from 200 to 300 pounds (approximately 90-135 kg). Heavy-duty models can hold significantly more. Always check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact weight limit.

Q: Is a two-wheel wheelbarrow better than a one-wheel?

A: A two-wheel wheelbarrow offers superior stability, making it easier to balance and control, especially when loaded. A one-wheel wheelbarrow is more agile and can maneuver more easily in tight spaces, but requires more effort to keep balanced.

Q: Can I use a wheelbarrow for hauling gravel or sand?

A: Yes, wheelbarrows are excellent for hauling materials like gravel, sand, and dirt. However, for very heavy loads of dense materials like gravel, it’s best to opt for a sturdy steel-tray wheelbarrow with a good load capacity and strong frame, and to consider models designed for gravel.

Q: How do I maintain my wheelbarrow?

A: Regularly clean the tray after use, especially if hauling sticky materials. Check tire pressure and inflate as needed for pneumatic tires. Lubricate moving parts like wheel axles periodically. Inspect the frame and handles for any signs of wear or damage, and address any issues promptly.
