It took forever to find another now as they are not sold in stores. The gauge of steel is so heavy you won’t bend it like cheap shovels. The handle is thicker than normal as well. I use this as a hoe to clean out the garden, chop roots from bushes and trees, pry the root balls out, peeled back turf to re-sod in another location. Basically its heavy duty and the round nose give more versatility over pointed nose shovels. The point of other shovels does not help you dig. I do recommend sharpening the edge for better performance. It comes painted and a little thick for my needs.”

I’m using in medium hard soil in flowerbed installing new irrigation lines. Update: Day 3, the handle kinked just above the shovel – see pic. I cut off the kink (about 5”), redrilled holes and reinstalled the handle. Tubing is a bit hard to drill but wan able to keep my project moving. Summary – is decent quality for light to medium work but has limitations.”

Instructions included but not needed.Putting the sections together had the bonus of a threaded connection before that little pop up button engaged. The tubes themselves are thick and strong. Ultimately I chose to cut the string keeping all the parts together and remove one section because 5 feet is longer than you think hahaha. But I would appreciate the extra length if I was going long or low. Most trenches here in North Carolina don’t need to be too deep.The shovel end is where this tool really shines. The blade is pointed and sharp. It cut through packed clay like butter. I am in the process of running utilities to a detached garage. The difference between trenching before, with a regular garden shovel, and now using this, is astounding. I would have bought one sooner if I had known how much easier digging could be. Seriously.Despite this shovel coming in pieces it really is a heavy duty tool and worth the money. My only small regret is that the ‘shoe’ on the shovel is so small. I could have done the math and guessed that the space to place my foot on the shovel for extra leverage/weight would have to be small given that the whole width is 4″. It is nice to be able to step down on a shovel and use body weight. That really isn’t possible with this shovel and I might miss it if I was digging something super firm.”
