Installation is super simple, the only tool you’ll need is a 14mm socket or wrench to remove the bolts! It also gives you time to clean the underside of the deck! Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Wow, the Honda HRX217 Series tune-up kit is a fantastic deal its all original parts and the blades quality was heavy duty material as far as the sharpness of the blade is great too. The “big jug “of honda oil was a nice surprise. Great replacement filter and spark plug as well. Thank goodness, I kept the smaller 12FL OZ/355 ML honda original container which I can use to refill from that big jug of SAE 10W-30 honda oil because one does not need all that big jug of oil or one will over-fill the lawn mower. I have not done the tune-up yet however, I am confident being all original parts their will be no issues. Thank you seller for great fair pricing and the fast shipping. I would buy from this seller again. 🙂

Customer Review: Great kit reasonably priced for the convenience of your mower’s first yearly maintenance. Here’s some tips I learned the hard way. Before doing the maintenance run the tank dry to reduce issues with leaking fuel. You need to literally turn the mower upside down to drain the oil, and on it’s side to change the blades, so if you don’t run it dry, fuel will leak out through the carburetor soaking the filter, ruining it. Next time I do it I’m going to remove the old filter and stuff the compartment with part of an old t-shirt to absorb any fuel that makes it’s way out. This kit is convenient, because you can switch the blades out and not worry about sharpening them right away. You always have an extra set. Steps in order: 1 run dry 2 remove old filter & stuff filter compartment with disposable rag 3 drain oil 4 remove blades 5 remove caked on grass from underside and all nooks and crannies 6 spray underside with WD-40 to help keep grass from sticking 7 install new blades 8 fill oil (do not over fill) 9 install new filter into a dry air filter compartment 10 replace spark plug (a half circle turn past finger tight is a good torque for most spark plugs, seating the crush washer nicely. You can also loosen the old spark plug and re-tighten it to the same position to get a good feel for how tight the new one should be) When I soaked my new filter I washed it with soapy water and let it dry thoroughly, but it was still ruined because when I ran the mower it would bog down and the RPMs would go up and down. This was due to restricted air flow, because when I removed the air filter it ran perfectly, so I just had to buy a new filter. Overall an the kit is a perfect fit.

Complete Buying Guide for Best Oil for Honda Lawn Mower

Essential Factors We Consider

When selecting the best oil for your Honda lawn mower, several key factors come into play. First and foremost is the viscosity grade, typically specified by Honda as SAE 30 or 10W-30. It’s crucial to use the viscosity recommended in your owner’s manual, as it dictates how well the oil flows and protects the engine under different temperature conditions. We also look at the oil type: conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic. While conventional oil is often sufficient, blends and synthetics can offer superior protection, especially under extreme conditions. Additive packages are also important; look for oils with good anti-wear, anti-corrosion, and detergent properties to keep your engine clean and well-protected. Finally, brand reputation and reviews play a role, ensuring you’re choosing a reliable product that other users have found effective.

Budget Planning

The cost of lawn mower oil can vary significantly. Basic conventional SAE 30 oil is generally the most budget-friendly option, often found in smaller bottles suitable for a single oil change. Synthetic blends and full synthetic oils tend to be more expensive but offer enhanced performance and protection. Consider the typical oil change frequency for your Honda mower and the total annual cost of maintenance. For many users, a good quality conventional or synthetic blend oil provides an excellent balance between cost and engine protection. If you’re considering a major service, a tune-up kit can sometimes offer better overall value than purchasing individual parts and fluids.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right oil is a straightforward but vital step in maintaining your Honda lawn mower. Whether you opt for a genuine Honda tune-up kit with included oil or select a high-quality aftermarket oil like STP or Toro, always prioritize the viscosity recommended in your mower’s manual. Proper lubrication is fundamental to the longevity and performance of your lawn equipment, ensuring it can handle tough mowing jobs season after season. Remember, consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, is key to a healthy and reliable mower. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of oil does a Honda lawn mower need?

A: Most Honda lawn mowers use SAE 30 oil for warm weather operation and 10W-30 oil for year-round use or in cooler climates. Always consult your owner’s manual for the exact recommendation for your specific model.

Q: How often should I change the oil in my Honda lawn mower?

A: It’s generally recommended to change the oil in your Honda lawn mower every 25 to 50 hours of use, or at least once per mowing season. Check your owner’s manual for the most accurate service interval.

Q: Can I use car oil in my Honda lawn mower?

A: While some car oils might have the correct viscosity, it’s best to use oil specifically formulated for 4-cycle small engines. Lawn mower engines often run hotter and under different conditions than car engines, and small engine oils have additives suited for these demands.

Q: What happens if I use the wrong oil in my Honda lawn mower?

A: Using the wrong oil can lead to increased engine wear, overheating, poor performance, and potentially premature engine failure. It’s crucial to stick to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Q: Do I need synthetic oil for my Honda lawn mower?

A: While not always mandatory, synthetic or synthetic blend oils can offer superior protection, especially in extreme temperatures or under heavy use. If your manual recommends it, or if you want extra protection, synthetic is a good choice.

Maintaining your Honda lawn mower with the right oil is a small step that makes a big difference in its performance and lifespan.
